well, hello again

I'm posting again much sooner than planned. While surfing for travel information about upstate New York, I came across the blog and web site of author Brooks Peters. Peters lives in the area and operates an antiquarian book store, and I may have read articles by him in Opera News. Besides writing some probing essays about vintage films and books in his blog, Peters finds some fascinating pages in the history of gay culture. (See "Brooks Peters" in my blog roll.)

I'd rather not identify the hotel where I'm staying yet, but it's close to Bard College. More about the hotel after the trip, perhaps, but I'll mention now that when they found out that I was travelling alone, they offered a smaller room more suitable for a single occupant at a considerably lower rate than the first room offered.

Thanks to the Fodor's New York State guide, I found out about the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute in Utica, which has a large collection of the Hudson River School painters. The Hudson painters are favorites of mine, especially Church, Heade and Gifford. Looking at their work in Baltimore-DC area museums is what lured me to visiting the Hudson Valley and the Adirondacks for my first time about two or three years ago. (And this time, I must see Church's mansion, Olana, too.)
