Summertime

I must be winding down from what has been another eventful season. I've skipped a couple of concerts of interest in both Baltimore and DC this weekend (and even missed a couple of events for which I had tickets the last two weekends). I got up this morning and planned to go into DC to see an exhibit at the National Gallery and browse the various gardens around the National Mall. Instead, I'm hiding out in my leafy suburb and getting ready to take care of my own garden. (On a short walk on a jogging trail in the nearby woods just now, a doe crossed my path. That seemed a little unusual at 11:30 in the morning, but maybe she knows how quiet it is around here on Sundays before noon.)

Yesterday, during very rainy weather and a tornado watch, I made it to Great Sage for lunch. That's just down 32 from Columbia in Clarksville. I'd heard so much about this place and finally made a point of visiting. It's a vegetarian restaurant -- "global green cuisine." I'm not vegetarian, but I don't insist on meat at every meal. I had the Mediterranean wrap, of which the main ingredients were hummus and artichoke hearts. Dessert was the peach and strawberry crisp. All excellent and total cost was about 15 dollars. (It would have been only about 9 without the dessert.) After lunch, I stepped next door in the same shopping center to browse and buy some items from the Roots grocery store, similar in concept to Sage.

While I'm taking a break from going to concerts and opera, I still want to get to the Baltimore Symphony in June, and this summer I hope to see something by Wolf Trap Opera. I'll still be around in the blogosphere, and I'll be adding names and links to the new pages.

(The photos: That's Ollie the Wonder Cat peeking out at my front patio garden area.)

Dear Clayton,
How I envy your "winding down". In spite of all my best efforts, I seem to be just as busy during these "lazy, crazy days of summer" as I am during the "season". Probably means OV needs more staff. . .Okay, back to translating the Act I finale of Lord Giovanni.
