blogging on -- plans and another great restaurant
Excuse another message about the medium, please. This weekend I...
-- opened the Washington Post and found a review and advertisement of a favorite Russian opera being performed in concert version at the Kennedy Center. I remember how excited I was about this when it was first announced last year, and I completely forgot that it was coming up.
-- read a review of a book in Opera News which has been sitting on my shelf for a few months, also completely forgotten.
-- found another sign of my house falling apart around me.
Maybe these are things that could have happened even if I was not keeping a blog. Well, I want to keep Operatically Inclined going and stay in touch with other opera and music lovers. You might notice my posts slow down (regardless of whether the opera season is in progress or not), or you might see a more casual tone in my posts. I've moved my extra pages to the top of my side bar. Have a look and let me know what you think, if you want. They are works in progress, and I hope they serve a purpose. I might add a calendar page to help keep track of events I want to attend.
A couple of things that DID happen this weekend, if I could share:
I watched another great old movie, "Red River," starring John Wayne and Montgomery Clift. It's an epic movie with an epic score by Dmitrii Tiomkin. Definitely an opera in there somewhere.
After passing by it for years, I finally dined at Dukem, the Ethiopian restaurant in Baltimore's Mount Vernon district. It's about half way between City Cafe and the Meyerhoff. I met some friends there -- we're planning to try a different restaurant in the area about once a month. I won't post about all our dining events here, but Dukem warrants special mention. I'd never eaten Ethiopian food before and just wanted to say how much I enjoyed it and that I hope to go back again later.
Hi there! The real opera is the behind the scenes activities in the filming of Red River--how Wayne wouldn't even look at or talk to Clift when the cameras weren't rolling (due to his sexual proclivites). Even so, it is a great movie--next up you should check out The Searchers with Wayne. Anyways, thanks for your blog, my husband and I enjoy it much. Too bad you don't live in Mt. Vernon like we do, as it seems you are here most of the time....
